"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own undertanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6) is a passage that I have passed on to those I counsel many times. It sounds straight forward so why do we constantly fall back on trying to understand those circumstances around us. We struggle with trying to understand why a spouse walked out, why our job is no longer in place, why we have received a certain medical diagnosis or haven't been able to receive a diagnosis. How can we stay on the "right path" when we just received bad news? Or maybe we are anxiously awaiting "the news" that could change the entire direction of our lives.
Proverbs 3:5-6 still stands true. As a matter of fact that is the whole point of this scripture. We do not need to understand. It is especially when we don't understand that we should trust in the Lord with all our heart. He already knows the future. He is not caught off guard by our life's circumstances. His Word says in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not ot harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I have to constantly remind myself, that I am not here on this earth for my purpose or my pleasure, but for the Lord's. My life is about bringing Him honor and glory, not just in what I do but who I am and am becoming.
The wonderful thing about God is that when we forget this, because as humans we always seem to forget, we can start again. Lamentations 3:22-23 remind us that because of the Lord's faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning. I am so grateful for this truth. Today I want to commit anew to "Trust in the Lord with all my heart and not to try to understand it all. I want to acknowledge Him in all my ways so that it is He who is directing my paths." There is a promise in Jeremiah for those who trust in the Lord and I want to reap that promise. It is "Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water." Jeremiah 17:7-8
I don't know about you, but I want to be one of those trees with deep roots. They always have water, so they are always full of life and they don't fall over easily.
