There Is Ice on the Wing!!!

This week my Mom and I flew out of Philadelphia at dusk in pretty heavy snowfall. The two flights before had been cancelled and the closer we got to take-off time the heavier the snow fell. We did board the plane pretty close to the scheduled time. Then I looked out the window and saw snow and ice on the wing. I am not usually a skiddish traveler, but I had never flown in these circumstances before, so I was a little nervous. However, I figured the pilots wouldn't take any chances with their own lives, much less the lives of over 140 passengers. They announced we would be going through the de-icing process before we took off. I watched out the window as the guy in the crane sprayed chemical over the entire plane. It was pink and green. Pretty colors and it was entertaining.

Then came time to head to the runway and take off. It was dark by now and of course I figured the temperature had dropped. And it was still snowing. That is when a thought struck me,"Why are all these people, including me, trusting man and a chemical process more than we typically trust God?" I was counting on the fact that these pilots had a positive history of safety and that the process of de-icing had a history of working, but then doesn't God have a faithful history that I can absolutely trust?

I deal with individuals every day who are struggling emotionally and spiritually with issues in their lives. I have learned even though our feelings are real and very important, that learning how to trust God's faithfulness will help us more than anything else. So how do we do that?

We spend time with Him by reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. We make note the promises He has made to His children and His faithfulness in keeping those promises. And then we study the lives of men and women who have demonstrated an intimate walk with God and the evidence of God's faithfulness in thier lives. The lives of these individuals are documented in detail in the Bible as well as biographies.

The next time you begin to worry or be anxious remember Psalm 118:8-9. "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes." Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie.
